Let’s look into the: Procedure on How To Make Invisible Ink With Lemon Juice

Materials you’ll need for this easy STEAM Activity :

  •       Half-cut lemon or 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  •       ½ teaspoon of water
  •       Spoon
  •        A small bowl or a cup
  •       Cotton bud or small paintbrush
  •       White paper
  •       Heat source; clothing iron or light bulb

Easy and Best Method for Invisible Ink Activity

  1. Squeeze the lemon juice into a small bowl.
  2.  Add the water and stir the mixture with a spoon.
  3.  Soak the cotton bud into the mixture and write the message you want to code onto the white paper.
  4. Wait for the juice to dry so that the message can disappear.  
  5. To reveal your secret message, bring the heat source close enough to the paper but make sure paper doesn’t get hot enough that it starts burning.

Note: You can use this trick with other citric acids like vinegar, orange juice, milk, and wine.

Lemon juice is a composition of sugar, organic acids, and carbon compounds and diluting it with water makes the solution hard to see on a paper but when you heat the paper, an oxidation reaction occurs, which means carbon compounds present in lemon juice started to get break down and turns light brown and this is how your secret message is revealed.
